SATA II is developed by chip giant Intel Intel and hard disk giant Seagate. Its main feature is that the external transmission rate has been further increased from SATA 150MB/s to 300MB/s. Sata3 is a new version of Serial ATA International (SATA-IO) released in May 2009, mainly to double transmission speed to 6Gbps, while being backward compatible with the old version of "SATA Revision2.6" (also known as SATA 3Gbps). The interface and data lines have not changed. The SATA3.0 interface technology standard was proposed by Intel Corporation in the first half of 2007. It was handled by Knut Grimsrud, Technical Director of Storage Product Architecture Design Department of Intel Corporation. Knut Grimsrud said that the transmission rate of SATA3.0 will reach 6Gbps and will be doubled based on SATA2.0 transmission rate.

Speed comparison between of Sata2 and sata3 

The main difference between SATA2 and SATA3 is different transmission rate. The latest SATA3 transmission rate can reach up to 6Gb/s, while the SATA2 interface has a transmission rate of 3Gb/s. At the transmission rate, the SATA2 hard disk interface has been unable to meet the needs of SSDs and some Qualcomm mechanical hard disks.

It should be noted that the best read speed for the hard disk depends not only on the hard disk but also on the hard disk interface. In other words, as long as the hard disk supports STA3.0 interface, and the hard disk of this computer connected to the motherboard supporting SATA3.0 interface will play the best performance, so some old computer hard drives, the maximum support is only SATA2.0,  when this kind of hard disk is connected to the SATA3.0 motherboard, the speed is still the speed of SATA2, because the hard disk itself is a hard injury.

From the appearance, SATA3 and SATA2 interfaces on the motherboard are basically the same, but on many motherboards, in order to let the user distinguish the sata2 and sata3 hard disk interfaces, different colors are often marked. Most motherboards that support STA3.0 interface sata2 are black, while SATA3 interfaces are yellow/white/blue, as shown in the following figure:

SATA2 and SATA3 motherboard hard disk interface appearance is basically the same, but many low-end motherboards still use sata2 and sata3 dual interface hybrid mode, like AMD platform A75, Intel platform B75, H81, B85 motherboard are sata2 and sata3 dual interface hybrid Mode, and some mid-to-high-end motherboards, such as A88, H87, Z87 and other motherboards are all SATA3.0 interfaces.

Only 4531 under the SATA2.0 interface. The difference is more than 700 points.
