There are several common registered jack variants, which are usually distinguished by specific numbers after "RJ", such as RJ9 RJ11 RJ12 RJ45 RJ48. This distinction corresponds to the number of position wires/connectors, and their size is different. This article will be briefly introduced differences of RJ9 RJ11 RJ12 RJ45 RJ48 connector.
4P4C RJ9 connector
All of RJ9/RJ10/RJ22 connector represent the same 4P4C pinout connector. In this case, although pin number changes, it does not mean that the function has changed. RJ9 is also known as RJ10 and RJ22.

4P4C RJ9 telephone cable is usually used to connect the phone headset (sometimes called the handset) to its body. Therefore, RJ9 does not interface with the public network, and its Pin is at least (4). Therefore, it is the smallest of the registered jack telephone connector.
Pins and color code of RJ9/RJ10/RJ22 connector are shown in the table as follows:

RJ11 6P4C telephone Connector
RJ11 connector belongs to the 6P4C modular connector, which is slightly larger than the RJ9/RJ10/RJ22 connector. These connectors transmit audio and control signals. They connect the phone to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) network, and also used for asymmetric digital user lines (ADSL) and modem connection.
4 wires are used as two pairs wires, so that RJ11 cable can be used as two connections to connect two telephone lines. Usually, use one pair and the other as a backup.
RJ12 6P6C connector
RJ12 connector is a 6P6C telephone connector, which has 6 positions and 6 wires. Therefore, the only difference between RJ12 and RJ11 is that there are two extra lines of RJ12. Digits and Size are the same. RJ12 can use 3 pairs of wires to connect 3 times. RJ12 6P6C connector is mainly used for systematic talks, and can be used to replace the RJ11 connector. But in turn, it is impossible, because RJ11 cable can only establish two connections, and the RJ12 cable can only establish three connections.

8P8C RJ45 connector
8P8C RJ45 connector is a well -known connector that is widely used in Ethernet and data connection. So they are also called Ethernet connectors. This is an 8P8C connector. Due to the large number of digits, RJ45 connector is slightly larger than RJ12 connector. RJ45 connects twisted cables with CAT6 and CAT5E standards.
The lead of the RJ45 is shown below:
a.RJ45 crossover Cable Pinout
b.RJ45 straight Patch cord Pinout
RJ48 Connector
RJ48 Connector is also a 8P8C connector, which has a good similarity to RJ45 connector. But they are different. Although RJ48 cable is used in the network field, specially used to end the T1 and ISDN networks. RJ48 ethernet Cable is used for further communication than RJ45 Cable.
RJ48 is used for connecting with STP wires, which has different variants, including RJ48C, RJ48X, and RJ48S. The combination of RJ48 pins is 1, 2, 7, 8 or 1, 2, 4, and 5.
The wiring of RJ48 is as follows:
