DisplayPort is an external interface that is connected between the host and the monitor via a cable. The eDisplayPort is often used for internal interfaces between laptops or all-in-ones. eDisplayPort is based on the Display Port protocol and has slightly different electrical characteristics.
What are the advantages of DP and HDMI?
DisplayPort technology comes directly from PCIE on PCs, such as 8b/10b encoding and AC coupling. So if the CPU supports it, it can be pulled directly from the CPU, no need for additional chips, so PC manufacturers are very interested in DP. HDMI technology is derived from DVI. It uses TMDS encoding and DC coupling. It can adjust the rate according to the resolution. It is used earlier on TV and DVD, so the display device supports a lot. At present, the two standards are the relationship of competition and cooperation.
What is the maximum distance that the Display Port interface can transmit?
The short line can be up to 3m and the long line can be up to 15m. If you use AOC cable transmission can be longer.
What is the difference between the ac-coupling capacitor on the TX side and the RX side?
It depends on chip manufacturer's recommendations, mainly in the design of the chip and consideration of common mode noise. The main link of the DP is generally placed on the TX side, and the AUX channel seems to be on the TX/RX side.
The DisplayPort physical layer interface uses a differential level of 50mV. What is the power consumption of this interface?
Receiver Sensitivity = 50mV, which means that the sink should be able to support normal communication at 50mV amplitude, not the source side design using 50mV differential level.
Is there a power supply interface defined in the DisplayPort physical layer interface? Do the 4 differential signals still need to be shared?
There is a 5V power PIN on the standard DP connector, and a power pin if the type-C connector is used. The differential line is AC-coupled and does not require a common ground but has a common shield.
Is the interface of DisplayPort 1.3 the same shape as DP1.2?
DisplayPort 1.3 can be used with existing DisplayPort 1.2 connectors or TypeC connectors.
What is the highest supported resolution of DisplayPort?
DisplayPort1.3 supports up to 8Kx4K display with a total data speed of 25.92Gbps
If you want to test DP1.3, does the oscilloscope require more than 40G?
A single lane 8.1 Gbps, using 20G bandwidth can be satisfied.
If DP1.3 is type-C, it is the same as USB3.1 interface?
Type-C is just a connector, and what signal protocol is carried depends on how the user designs it.
Does the dp interface add a larger copy?
For display device manufacturers may be. For PC manufacturers, the cost is reduced. If the CPU supports it, there is no need to add any extra chips.
DP1.2 does not support YUV420 for the time being.
Does DP1.2 support 4K resolution? What is the maximum support for DP1.3?
DP1.2 HBR2 can support 4KX2K, DP1.3 will support 5K X 3K, and 8K X 4K can be supported in special 4:2:0 mode.
DisplayPort interface has eDP, embedded DP interface, this interface is only for the physical interface of the PCB board connection, or can directly drive the driver chip interface of the LCD panel?
eDP is a bus for notebook, PAD internal display chip to display interconnect applications, which is derived from DP. Whether it can be driven directly depends on whether your panel driver chip supports eDP interface. If it is not supported, it may need to be converted.
When the display data does not match, is the host actively sending data through the AUX channel, or is the slave transmitting data through the AUX channel to adjust, after all, is it half-duplex?
Generally, the host first reads the number of channels and resolution supported by the receiving end through the Aux channel, and then trains the link and outputs audio and video data accordingly. If the training finds a problem, the receiver will report the problem and let the sender adjust it.
