The origin of the Thunderbolt interface
The Thunderbolt interface (Thunderbolt) is developed by Intel, which combines PCIExpress data transmission technology and DisplayPort display technology, and support transmit data and video signals at the same time. The latest Thunderbolt 4 interface’s transmission speed is up to 40Gbps.

Since it is Thunderbolt 3, there must be 1 and 2 before it. The interface used in the first two generations is the Mini DP port, which is mainly used in Apple Mac series computers.
The subsequent Type-C interface is widely used due to its convenience, small size and faster transmission speed. Intel also replaced the physical interface of Thunderbolt 3 with Type-C to make the transmission speed faster!
Using the Thunderbolt 3 interface, you can expand a lot of equipment, and provide up to 100W power transmission (actually can be higher), almost can replace all other interfaces:

What is the difference between Thunderbolt 3 and Type-C?
1. Type-C is the interface type, and Thunderbolt 3 is the data transmission protocol;
2. Type-C interface is not necessarily the Thunderbolt 3 prot, but the Thunderbolt 3 must be the Type-C interface;
3. Thunderbolt 3 can achieve most of the functions of USB Type C, and the transmission rate is higher.
What are the advantages of the Thunderbolt 3 interface?
1.Easy to use: Can be used to charge other devices, and it can be plugged in either way. This is mainly due to the characteristics of the Type-C interface.
2. The power and bandwidth are very high: Power can be up to 100W, supports two-way data transmission, and the bandwidth is up to 40Gbps, which is a substantial improvement compared to the 10Gbps of USB3.1!

3. Compatible with multiple transmission protocols: including: usb3.1 protocol, Thunderbolt 1st and 2nd generation, and DisplayPort and PCI express, etc.
What is Thunderbolt 3 interface usage?
Generally speaking, Thunderbolt 3 can do what any other interface can do with the docking station! For example, connect USB devices, connect monitors, projectors, network cards, and so on. In addition to these basic operations, there are many very powerful functions~
External graphics card: After connecting to the graphics card expansion dock, thanks to the extremely fast transmission function of the Thunderbolt 3 interface, you can transfer images to the graphics card expansion dock, and then the graphics card is processed and transferred back to the computer, which is equivalent to an external graphics card
Exerting the ultimate performance of SSD: Most of the big-brand SSD hard drives support PCI-E bus M.2.SSD. After connecting through the Thunderbolt 3 interface, the speed can usually reach a write speed of 700MB/s or more, and a read speed of more than 1500MB/ s!
Multi-screen ultra-clear image expansion: to meet the needs of high-end commercial, financial users and geek players, who pursue multi-screen expansion, high resolution, and mouse control without procrastination;
