What s the role and function of Connector that uses optical fiber? As a DP fiber extender, the principle and structure of the connector is same? We just use it, but we donot know about the working principle of the optical fiber connector.

Under the the fiber technology continues, Optical fiber connector is mature and gradually developed. The effects of copper wire connectors on AV system signal loss are generally not significant, whereas fiber optic connections are different. Optical fiber connector have a significant impact on every interface in a transmission system. Let's take a look at some problems with fiber optic physical connections. fiber optic physical connections can be instructed by fiber optic transmission equipment itself, but in some cases, most of the fiber optic transmission connections are man-made. The amount of signal lost during fiber optic cable transmission is primarily determined by the quality and type of fiber optic cable, each connection side signal would loss a little.

Same as electric power supply, fiber optic power supply is usually measured in dB, -3dB. In a copper circuit, no matter digital or analog signal, the connector signal losses is basically zero, It means that compared with the amount of signal loss caused by the whole cable, the connector contact resistance Ohm losses is usually negligible. In most fiber-optic installations, the situation is opposite. In AV applications, less than 1000 feet of fiber optic cable signal loss will be basically less than 3dB. Multi-mode fiber dispersion becomes very important for several kilometers of transmission, so it is best to use single-mode fiber with low signal loss. However, no matter whether it is a short-range transmission or a long-distance transmission, a large amount of signal loss occurs on each connector interface that contacts the transmission signal. Usually, the largest part of the signal loss occurs at the output. The key to installing a good optical fiber connector is to minimize the signal loss between the interconnected optical fibers and keep the signal loss within a certain range of estimation for the long-term stability of the system. Signal loss at the connector interface is also measured in dB. Because fiber ends is not properly connected, the interruption of the optical path can result in loss of a certain amount of signal, such as poor optical fiber surfaces and non-parallel end connections, which can result in far less signal loss than expected signal loss.
