According to HT Tech News, Apple has started working on the iPhone 15 series, and new product will debut in the second half of 2023 or 2024. Compared to the iPhone 14 series, the biggest change to the iPhone 15 is the removal of the Lightning port in favour of a USB-C port. Not long ago, Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that future iPhones were going to use the USB-C port, probably officially on the iPhone 15 series. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman revealed that Apple was already testing a related new model. But overseas blogger LeaksApplePro said on Twitter that iPhone 15 series will still use the Lightning port and only the Pro version will have the C port.
Specifically, iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Max will continue to use Lightning 8 pin connector, while the more highly positioned iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will use Type-C connector. After iPhone 15 series, entire iPhone 16 lineup will use the USB-C port, while the iPhone 16 Pro is also likely to be the first Apple phone to remove the physical port.
With the iPhone 14 about to be released, iPhone 15 revelations won't be too credible at this stage, but the differentiation of charging ports does seem quite Apple-esque. Apple's practice is to make the difference between a few iPhones, so there's a good chance the news is true.
EU has reached a provisional agreement on the unified charging port, all sales of electronic products in Europe, charging interface must be Type-C port, which means that iPhone with USB-C interface, it is only a matter of time, we do not think Apple would rather lose the entire European market also to keep the proprietary interface more than a decade ago. After EU, US will also unify charging interfaces: the C-port iPhone is finally coming.
In 2021, the tech giant sold a total of 56 million iPhones in Europe. the mandatory unification of the C-port will actually have the greatest impact on Apple. Using USB-C port on iPhones is bound to much benefits for the average user, not only higher power charging, faster file transfer rates, but also compatible with other C-port devices, eliminating the need to carry extra cables. But from Apple's point of view, bowing to Type-C means that the annual profit from MFi certified, official accessories will be significantly reduced. Therefore, we think that in order to make money, Apple is likely to come out with a custom private agreement.
